Here's a funny story that happened just after the cast and crew of Two and a Half Men wrapped the episode in which Gracie has a small role as a Guest Star:
Gracie wanted to take a couple of pics with the members of the cast. So, after getting permission to take a few personal pictures, we were first able to ask Jon Cryer (Jake) if he would take a picture with Gracie. Of course, he obliged and I took a nice picture of Gracie with Jon.
Then, Gracie asked Charlie Sheen, who was standing nearby, if he would mind taking a picture with her. Once again, of course, Charlie was happy to do a nice favor and take a picture with Gracie.
As I was the photog, Mr. Sheen asked Gracie, "Is this your Dad?"
Gracie answered that I was and then she proceeded to make the introductions.
I stepped forward and thought I said, "I'm Kurt. It's nice to meet you, Charlie."
Charlie gave me a quizzical look as he stuck out his arm to shake my hand and said, "You're Charlie?"
I moronically answered, "No, I'm Kurt. You're Charlie..."
Charlie smiled back while shaking my hand with a look in his eyes that said, "Uh, OK?"
I tried to throw myself a life-line by quickly adding, "I was saying 'it is nice to meet you, Charlie."
Charlie graciously allowed the matter to rest and proceeded to take a very nice picture with Gracie at which time she and him exchanged pleasantries and we were on our way to try to find Angus T. Jones for a quick picture.
Unfortunately, Angus and his mom had already left. That was too bad because Gracie really enjoyed her scene with Angus and wanted to get a personal picture with him. Hopefully, she'll get another chance on another day.
Gracie had a great experience and the entire cast, crew and families/friends of the cast were incredibly wonderful to both Gracie and I all week. Angus' mother, Carrie, seemed great and she was very nice to me as a newbie parent on set. Angus is clearly a great kid and watching him perform made it easy to see that he is a big reason Two and a Half Men is such a huge hit.
Kimberly Quinn, a significant recurring Guest Star on the show and a central character for the episode, was also really nice. There are people who have a knack for helping you feel like you belong when you are a new person. Kimberly had that quality and that's something you don't always associate with "stars". I'm sure most of us can all think of a situation where we were the new person and there were a couple of folks who took the time to talk to you and help you feel at ease. If you can, then you know what a difference a couple of friendly conversations can be in those situations. L-R: Sandra Dee Robinson, Gracie Maddox, Kimberly Quinn
One of the Assistant Directors, Chris Jensen, was also just terrific. I can't say enough about Chris and how easy he made everything for me and Gracie all week. Chris is one of those ultra-hard workers and nice people behind the scenes that are a big part of the success of shows like Two and a Half Men. Chris (2nd AD) , Gracie & Mark (1st AD)
All in all, Gracie's experience was even better than we could have imagined. She learned a lot and is eager for more opportunities to learn from the very best. And, when it comes to creating great television, the cast and crew of Two and a Half Men are just that -- the very best! Also visit:
