And it is further true amongst all those who claim leadership by virtue of divine authority we may apply this test with authority - that the man who stands for humanity, first, last and all the time, against all vested interest, religious and economic, is the man who stands as Jesus stood.

Why I Love tBlog!

I discovered tBlog like a lot of folks do -- by doing a Google search for Free Blogging sites.  That was over 4 years ago and "blogs" were the hottest Internet thing going at the time.  Google had yet to monetize everything that clicked on the Net.  MySpace was worth about as much as my first car and Facebook's founder was still looking for a date to his Junior prom.  I'd recently moved back to my hometown in the hope of re-centering my life around my most deeply held values.  I was living in a town of 400 people in rural Kentucky.  Needless to say, my social life suffered comensurately, which was exactly my plan.  So, I had a bit of time on my hands that I hadn't had in many years.  I also I had some things inside of me that needed to be expressed and a few ideas that I wanted to share with someone other than the usual suspects in my life.

I checked out all the popular blogging sites of that time.  It seems like Type Pad and Blogger and Blog Spot were the 3 other blogs other than tBlog that I gave a spin.  Posting to all the other blogs was a bit like screaming at the top of your lungs in deep outer space because there was no one there to hear your scream.  tBlog was different.  tBlog was simple -- sort of like my little hometown.  My tBlog was very easy to set-up and to begin posting.  I spent some time lurking on tBlurt and eventually began to interact with other tBloggers.  I visited their sites and left comments so that I could accumulate tBucks.  Others visited my site and left their comments for me.  I checked out the Hot Blogs and thought about how cool it would be to become one of the top bloggers on a blogging site.

Although I was just looking for a blog site, what I found was the most unique on-line community that I'd ever joined -- and being the Internet junkie I am -- I'd joined them all.  I can still remember late nights in Compuserve forums using a 14K modem.  Here at tBlog I became a very active blogger, reader of other blogs and frequent commenter to other blogs.  Loving nothing more than a vigorous and spirited debate, I quickly became a bit infamous for my special brand of bloviating in the comments section of other other tBloggers.  I believe I can easily claim the title of longest commenter on tBlog without risking a protest!

To this very day, what I love so much about tBlog is that even after 4 years of being a member of the tBlog community, I still find tBlog just as oddly authentic... just as refreshingly anti-cool... just as REAL as tBlog was for me those first few weeks of blogging.  I truly consider my tBlog friends to be real friends in every sense of the word.  Those of you who have been reading my blogs over the past few years likely know more about me than the people I spend time with in the carbon based world.  You've been with me through several big changes and you've watched my kids grow up.  You were there when I met a very special woman almost 3 years ago to the day that will become my wife next month.  You were there when my son, Warren, came to live with me.  You were there when I was re-grouping in Centertown, Kentucky and you were there when I packed up the SUV to move to Orange County, California.  You were there when my kids got roles in local plays and you stayed with me all the way through to Gracie's recent appearance on the hit sitcom "Two and Half Men".

You were there because tBlog provided a tool for me to share my life, my thoughts and my hopes with you and you were there because tBlog evolved to become best blogging community on the web for regular ol' folks like us all over the world.  You were there because I chose to write all down on tBlog and because you were kind enough to read and leave a comment.

Who would have thought that real human community that truly enriches one's life could be achieved by such a simple equation?  Here's the equation:  1) Be willing to share your thoughts by writing them down and posting them to your tBlog.  2) Read the blogs of others and be willing to leave a thoughtful comment.  3) When others leave comments, thank them for their input and return the favor.

Only Snoopy May Know What the "t" Stands For

Now, noboby knows exactly what the "t" in tBlog officially stands for -- I think it my stand for "touch", because being a member of the tBlog community has certainly touched my life.  Then again, it might stand for "thought", since tBlog is a place where so many of us get to share our thoughts and have our thoughts heard.

The "t" could also stand for "Trademark& quot; because for me there's just nothing like tBlog.

Sure, I've got an outpost on Facebook and I'm a good networker on LinkedIn and Plaxo.  But if you cut out my heart, you'd find it branded with that little "t" and that's why despite whatever new trends may come and go in the land of 3 W's -- it'll always be tBlog for me!

Before you start tMailing me about every technical problem or bug that tBlog's ever had, please know that I've struggled through the same membership pains that you have.  In many ways, those growing pains have made this community real in the same way the Old Skin Horse in the Children's story The Velveteen Rabbit says we all become real -- by going through a shared experience together.  Hey, maybe that's what the "t" in tBlog stands for -- togetherness.  My final suggestion for what that little "t" might represent is "Thankfullness" because I couldn't be more thankful for tBlog or for tBlog's great members.

Here's to a bright future for tBlog!  If you are new here, you'll want to stick around long enough to find out what makes tBlog so special.  If you've been here in Nanna's nursery a very long time like the Old Skin Horse, then don't go anywhere because tBlog could be ready to really hit its stride and you won't want to miss the ride.

If you get a chance, let me know what you love best about tBlog and about being a member of the tBlog Global Neighborhood...

Nice post. We may be skinned and bleeding around here, but we're surviving, and waiting to thrive.

The friendships are priceless to me too. -Something I never expected and for which I've grown extremely thankful.

You were, by the way, my very first commenter. You wrote...

"BTW... I obviously get the "dad and i" thing now. It took me a couple of posts to get the "Jesus reporting" and that you were writing using Jesus as the narrator or reporter.

Very intriguing creative device. After I got used to it -- it worked really well."

Meant the world to me, as you still do.

I too like tblog. I like the fact that I am not, for the most part, whining into the atmosphere. I suppose I could live just fine without sharing my frustrations and feelings with my tfriends, but somehow, that existence just seems, well, not as full as the one that includes my fellow tbloggers.

It was a true statement, I too post on other blogs, but have no surety that anyone at all sees them.

I will also remain here, in the tblogosphere, along with some very good friends I have made along the way who manage to inspire me, challenge me and bring me to task on a regular basis!!

and, I am proud to call them friends.

Thanks Kurt! I am relatively new here, but found many of points you made to be true very quickly. It is an actual community and one that I hope to be a part of for as long as I can be.

I look forward to continue building relationships with the many great individuals I have had the pleasure of meeting so far. It is sort of surreal, but at the same time, like you said, strangely authentic.

I hope to be part of this fun tblog ride for a long time to come. I appreciate you all and what you share as well as the support you have given me so far. It is pretty special. Peace and much love!

Our brains are funny things -- as I read my first comment to your blog, I instantly remembered writing it and a sort of flashback experience. Kinda cool.

It would fun someday to some mini-books of all the great tBlog debates:

Surrogate vs. Kurt Volume 1
Kurt vs. Pastor Dave: Early Comments
Lynn Kramer Against The World
The World Against Kupov
The Lindy Chronicles
Scuba Diva: Dates Gone Wrong

...and many more that I'm leaving out because I just woke up and didn't get much sleep :-)

I'm glad we've made the acquaintance and your sentiments are reciprocated very much in kind!

I had started with Shoutpost, because Tblog was closed to new members at the time, but it is built on the same premise, but it is now defunct! Sad!!!! The last post accepted was Mar. 31 A bunch of us from there joined tblog, because a spammer came in, set him/her self as #1 in the hotbloggers and heavily spammed all the women, and they had to kill the hotblogs section to stop them!!
I really enjoy Tblog, and hope it never goes defunct!! how could we stand it???

Kurt, you have described tblog so eloquently that all I can say is ditto. I love tblog over all the other sotes that I have joined.
There is nothing like tblog.

Well, we couldn't stand it, could we? lol!

You might be interested to learn that Shoutpost is still functional and the spam issues have been resolved. Shoutpost is a sister site to tBlog and it is my understanding that Shoutpost will remain part of the tBlog family of Blog Networking Sites going forward. I actually have a new Shoutpost blog dedicated to my fascination with the writings and life of Wallace Wattles.

Anyway, I'm glad you're here and I appreciate you weighing in with some love for tBlog!

Hey Kurt: I had the opportunity to view and read your most recent blog and there can be little debate to what you have expressed regarding being "part" of the "T.Blog" community. Your article is quite expressive in your appreciation of being actively involved not just in the creation of originality when writing a blog but also in the commentary aspects of reading and commenting on other's blogs!

Newcomers to "our" little community will see and find that we are a most forthright and accommodating group with respect to welcoming "new blood" into our humble house of individuals. Personally, I truly believe that we are first individuals then bloggers secondly and this does not have to be validated because of the true intentions of the website and thus creates an atmosphere of friendliness and respect among all of us. Thank you Kurt for the exposure to newcomere and from a seasoned veteran on this site it is my pleasure to read your informative blogs. By the way congratulations on your up and coming wedding and all the best to you and your family!

I've enjoyed interacting with you, kurt, since joining t-Blog almost 3 years ago. You've introduced me to a new term that I think is a great word- "bloviate". You've admitted it to be a specialty of yours. I like what surrogate once said, again in the context of interaction with you: In response to 'How's the weather?', kurt can wrote War & Peace. While not entirely true, I think it is funny. Actually, you make a lot of sense, and all of us are better because of such blogging conversations.

I sure hope your positive vibes about the future of this place prove to be true. For me personally, I thoroughly enjoy being able to interact with such a varied group of personalities. I do not find these ideas and opinions in the usual places I frequent. As we talk, and yes- believe it or not, I do listen and learn and even sometimes change-, I find myself becoming a better in my understanding of things. And I'm able to better communicate. So, t-Blog makes me a better minister!

Recently, I was being considered by the pastor-search committee of another church. I do not know if I would have seriously thought about becoming their pastor. They seemed pretty serious for a while. Then, they dropped me, sending me a form letter saying "I was not God's man for their congregation." In conversation with one of my references, the chairperson of the committee said they were concerned about my blog! Somehow, and I am not sure how, they found out I bloviate around here. She told this guy they were not sure "...that I would be safe". Safe! Since when did that become a requirement for a minister of the gospel? Well, thanks to good ole t-Blog, I'm no longer safe. That's good. I deeply appreciate, and receive such title with honor.

A lot of it is your fault, kurt.

Next time, let me know which church it is before you apply and I'll apply first. After Googling my name, they'll think you're a cross between Billy Graham and Adrian Rogers! lol!

Seriously, I deeply appreciate the sentiments you just shared. You have proven here that you are willing to put your Christian faith into the mix in the real world of ideas where you are often in the minority opinion. When I played college basketball, I was one of 3 white guys on the team. I can proudly tell you that I learned more about how to see the world from another persons from the experience of being the minority race and the minority culture than I've ever learned from hanging out with people just like me all the time. That experienced changed me for the better. In a similar way, I would suggest that you have given yourself the opportunity to be a better minister because you had the courage to step outside your comfort zone and be challenged on the very things you hold to be the most sacred.

If this makes you dangerous, then we need a lot more of "Dangerous Men of God" in the world. The dangerous people are those who live an insular and unchallenged life while insuring that their circle influence matches their own beliefs as closely as possible.

We've all learned from these exchanges and none more than me. You've been on a journey into your faith and I've been on a journey out of one kind faith and into another very different faith. I've worked out much of that right here on tBlog. As you know, I ended up feeling tremendous pressure to delete almost all of that journey from public view due the opinions of others whom my beliefs caused a great deal of hardship. (Don't worry, I saved it all for the book as world documents!)

I admire your courage to just be who you are and to be willing to let the world see Pastor Dave's pilgramage live and unedited! It is really a remarkable thing for someone with your position and your belief system to do.

I really feel like I should apologize I've sometimes used our debates as a sort of laboratory for my own purposes. I like to try out arguments and angles so that I can see how certain folks from a certain perspective will respond. I believe I improve my own ability to communicate a thought and to articulate a position with each and every one of those exchanges. If you believe your own capabilities have increased as a result then I'd call that a Win/Win if there ever was one! Ha! Ha!

I will go on record here once again, PD, that you are one of the finest human beings I've ever had the pleasure to get to know a little bit. Any church that passes over you because of your blog most certainly does not deserve a man of your maturity, courage, honesty and capabilities as their Pastor!

I wish I could say that I felt bad that some aspect of the new Dangerous Dave might be partially my fault, but, I don't feel bad at all. In fact, that's a pretty high compliment and maybe as high of a compliment as I've ever been paid!

Thank you and here's to getting back to aggravating each other soon before we lose our loyal audience ;-)
