And it is further true amongst all those who claim leadership by virtue of divine authority we may apply this test with authority - that the man who stands for humanity, first, last and all the time, against all vested interest, religious and economic, is the man who stands as Jesus stood.

Ode to Happy Endings
05.22.08 (7:21 am)   [edit]
Willy Wonka: How did you like the factory, Charlie?

Charlie Bucket: I think it's the most wonderful place in the whole world.

Willy Wonka: I'm very pleased to hear you say that. because I'm giving it to you. That's all right, isn't it?

Grandpa Joe: You're giving Charlie the factory?

Willy Wonka: I can't go on forever, and I don't really want to try. Who's going to watch over my factory and take care of the Oompa-Loompas for me after I pass on? Not a grown-up. A grown-up would want to do everything his own way, not mine. That's why I decided a long time ago I wanted to find a child. A very kind and caring small boy to whom I can tell all my most precious candy-making secrets.

Charlie Bucket: And that's why you sent out the Golden Tickets.

Willy Wonka: That's right. So the factory is yours, Charlie. You and Grandpa Joe can move in right away.

Charlie Bucket: Really? But what about...

Willy Wonka: The entire family. I want you to bring them all. [Charlie hugs him] But Charlie, don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he wanted.

Charlie Bucket: What happened?

Willy Wonka: He lived happily ever after.

[They hug]I guess you could say I'm pretty happy right now!  Thanks Willy Wonka for giving us all permission to want it all without expecting anything!! After all, aren't we all "Charlie" at some level?

Congratulations! It is a true blessing to be satisfied with what you have. I have so much to be thankful for and I try to keep it all in perspective. If I can just get my job to a place where I can be happy, then I will be pretty close to getting the "Chocolate Factory" in my life as well.

Happy is mostly a state-of-mind, I find. There are certainly circumstances that are so horrible that it would be nearly impossible to find happiness, but, barring those extreme situations, happiness usually isn't dependent on circumstances. Good circumstances, though, sure don't hurt anything ;-)
